What sunscreen brands do you recommend for everyday wear? What should we look for when choosing sunscreen?
I love Supergoop! They have a sunscreen for pretty much every skin type, as well as in so many different forms. My preference is a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher that is hydrating enough that it can double as a daytime moisturizer as well.
What SPF should you wear on your face compared to the rest of your body? Is there a difference? And can you use one for all?
It depends on the sunscreen and brand if there are differences between the two. I think it’s best to stick to non-comedogenic sunscreens that are formulated for facial use. One sunscreen I love is Supergoop’s Play Everyday Lotion which is made for face and body! It’s lightly hydrating, but won’t cause any congestion.
How often should you reapply sunscreen when you’re outside?
It’s best to reapply every 2 hours when you’re in the sun, more often if you’re in the water.
If you want some coverage, what do you recommend? a sunscreen with tint? or tinted moisturizer w screen?
Not all tinted moisturizers have a high enough SPF or contain any sunscreen at all, so you want to make sure you’re looking for one with adequate protection of an SPF of 30 or higher. In general, I don’t wear foundation, but if I want a little coverage, even at night, I will use Supergoop’s CC Cream. It has amazing coverage!
If you have sensitive skin or are prone to breakouts what type of sunscreen do you recommend?
For acne-prone skin types, I always recommend Control Corrective’s Oil-Free SPF. It’s hydrating, yet the oil-free formula keeps it from causing any congestion.
Spray or lotion? Is there a difference? We’ve heard spray is unsafe/unhealthy, is this true?
I personally prefer a cream. However, there are great sprays such as the Supergoop Sunscreen Mist, which is non-aerosol.
Sunburn. We try to avoid it but it happens. Do you have a sunburn remedy?
Get into the habit of wearing sunscreen daily, all year round. Find a formula that you love, that works great for your skin type that you’re going to wear daily. This will help to prevent sunburns to keep skin healthy. However, if you do end up with a sunburn, aloe is a wonderful ingredient to calm and soothe the skin. Make sure you’re using a gentle cleanser that won’t strip the skin like Cleansing Serum. It has Oat Bran Extract to repair the barrier, which is great when dealing with irritated skin! Limit the use of active ingredients and focus on hydrating and soothing the skin. iS Clinical’s Hydra-Cool is great to use after sun exposure. It has hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate the skin and menthol which helps to calm the skin.
In your opinion do you need a different sunblock for being active (surfing, swimming, paddleboarding) vs poolday with your girlfriends?
If you’re spending time in the water, a water-resistant sunscreen is best. However, you still need to reapply if you’re using a water-resistant formula.
What LOF suit is your favorite at the moment? What kind of summer fun have you been getting up to in your suit?
I love the Hi Tide Bottoms with the Pool Days top! This summer looks like a lot of afternoons spent in my favorite spot, my backyard, preferably with a glass of Pinot Grigio!
