Venice, LA Community & Retail Leader

Location: Venice, California
Title: Community and Retail Leader
Reports to: Director of Retail
Salary Band: $60,000- $90,000 USD
Availability: Full Time, must be available weekends and holidays

Job Summary

The Community and Retail Leader is a hybrid leadership and community role: part store lead, part local brand builder. You'll partner with the Store Manager to run a tight, high-performing sales floor: coaching the team, owning operational excellence, and stepping up as leader-on-duty when needed. At the same time, you own the store's community strategy:  building real, personal relationships with the studios, influencers, and partners who define your local community - showing up consistently, adding genuine value, and becoming a name people know. You'll grow Left On Friday's presence in the neighborhood, drive new guest acquisition, and bring that community energy onto the floor every day.

This role is for a self-starter who can work independently without a store around them, and who is just as energized by running a business as by building a following. Think: host a swim club at 7am, close out a pop-up P&L by noon, and coach a new hire by 5.

Life at LOF:

We're a swim brand built for epic good times, and our team lives it every day through sweat sessions, early morning swims, community events and saying "yes" to whatever adventure comes next. No matter your role, you'll be part of how we show up. Our team loves being active, working out together and are plugged into their local athletic communities, whether that's a run club, swim group, surf crew or yoga studio. If that sounds like your kind of good time, read on.

Core Responsibilities

Community Strategy & Local Partnerships

  • Be Known in the Neighborhood: Become a known and trusted presence with local businesses and the fitness/wellness community: show up consistently, bring fun, and add real value so the connection feels authentic, not transactional

  • Identify and build relationships with local influencers shaping fitness and community in your market

  • Weekly Visibility: Get you and your team out in the community every week: hosting sweats, showing up at cold plunges, joining classes

  • Reciprocal Value: Make sure value flows both ways: host events, support local activations, and earn invitations into what's next for the community

  • Activation Calendar & Metrics: Own a full local activation calendar and track how it measurably drives awareness, store traffic, and new customers

  • Product Seeding: Execute product seeding through community partners and influencers to build authentic brand awareness

  • Test & Learn: Test new community and store ideas, and share learnings with the Store Manager to inform future planning

Store Leadership & Operations

  • Sales Performance: Partner with the Store Manager to drive daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets esp as they relate to community efforts

  • Floor Leadership: Ensure efficiency, guest satisfaction, and team productivity on the sales floor

  • Operations: Support store P&L management, budget accountability, and operational tasks including opening/closing, inventory, and visual merchandising standards

  • Leader on Duty: Step up as leader-on-duty when the Store Manager is out, keeping the team aligned and accountable

Team Leadership & Development

  • Coaching: Coach, mentor, and develop Floor Leaders and Fit Experts to perform at their best in and out of the store and community

  • Feedback: Give direct, honest feedback and support ongoing learning and career growth

  • Scheduling: Build and manage team schedules in partnership with the Store Manager including activating in the community

  • Culture: Foster a respectful, inclusive, and fun team culture, and hold the team accountable to results

California Expansion & Pre-Opening Support

  • Future California Openings: As Left On Friday grows in California, support pre-opening for new stores and pop-ups in the California market, driving the community strategy for those openings.

  • Opening Support: Support store opening planning, including local hiring, team onboarding, and grand opening events.

  • Market Insight: Gather local market insight (neighborhoods, foot traffic, partner landscape, guest feedback) to inform store location and opening plans.

Values You Bring

  • Genuine Connection (Guest-First): Natural ability to build rapport and make every guest feel seen and supported

  • Excellence-Driven (Make It Great): Consistently go above and beyond to create wow moments

  • Experience planning and running pop-ups or events, including logistics, inventory, and budgets.

  • Strong operational skills: scheduling, inventory management, and P&L awareness.

  • Comfortable tracking results and turning activity into numbers (sign-ups, traffic, sales, new customers).

  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Shopify POS (or able to learn quickly).

  • Loves being in, on, and around water and other sweaty pursuits.

Schedule & Work Context

  • Full-time. Schedule varies with community and business needs, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • During peak timeframes, special events, or activations, hours may include early mornings or late nights

  • Some lifting and carrying of inventory and event setups (up to 35 lbs).

  • Work happens across multiple environments: on the salesfloor, at community events, and out in the field with partners

  • A mix of independent work and team collaboration, using both in-person relationship-building and everyday tech tools

  • Ability to travel across borders Canada/USA and within the greater LA region to community events and partner locations. Reliable transportation required.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
