World class athletes, swimsuit connoisseurs and two of our favourite people. Get to know Melissa and Brandie.
MELISSA
She’s been playing for Canada since her teens. Now she’s a 7-time FIVB Gold Medalist, 5-time Canadian Champion, and 2-time AVP Champion using her voice as an eco-athlete to make each season a little lighter on the planet.
BRANDIE
If you hear the phrase “Monster Block,” you know Brandie’s playing. When she’s not catching air (she’s the 2018 FIVB Best Blocker in the World and the 2022 AVP Best Blocker), she’s working on initiatives to create more representation in volleyball.
BEHIND THE SERVE
We headed to Santa Monica Beach to spend some time on the sand with Melissa and Brandie as they reminded us why they’re best in class.
BRANDIE
We chatted with Brandie about how she got her start, her inspirations, and, of course, her impeccable nail game.
What’s your training schedule during the season?
We’ve got a packed summer of World Tour events including Czechia, Switzerland, Brazil, Germany and Canada! As well as a month of AVP events in major US cities like Aspen, Miami, New York, Vegas, and Manhattan Beach.
What are your current LOF faves to play or train in?
I love to train on the beach in Sunday Top D+ and Rio Bottom. For workouts I’ve been loving Pedal Pusher and Form Tank matching in Stormy
How do you reset between everything?
I love to get dressed up and go out for dinners. Get my hair and nails done. Or just enjoy some solo time at home.
What are you passionate about using your voice for?
I get excited about inspiring peoples human potential, whatever their passions and goals are. Confidence is key.
You’re leaving on Friday, where are you going?
For volleyball, Fridays I’m off to a tournament to win gold!

MELISSA
When she’s not making moves on the sand, you can find Melissa at a concert, or dreaming of her next trip to Mexico City.
What’s your training schedule during the season?
Two hour on-sand training and four times a week in the gym in the evenings. Sundays are my day off. We have approximately 12 competitions between April and November, then we usually get December and January off for the holidays and to be with family. Then it's right back to training.
What are your current LOF faves to play or train in?
I’m a die-hard for the Pool Days Top and Wear To Bottom combo, layered with a SunDays top for extra protection! Recently I played in the Sunseeker one piece and I felt so incredibly comfortable and sleek.
How do you reset between everything?
I honestly love a low-lift hobby after a long day of training, like a Netflix show with a face mask on. But what really fills my soul is live music. Going to a concert solo is my guilty pleasure.
What are you passionate about using your voice for?
Sustainability in sport, and in life.
You’re leaving on Friday, where are you going?
CDMX! (Mexico City)
